Motorcycle Trials

Motorcycle trials as the name suggests, is one sporting event where the rider is required to complete the event by negotiating with natural or artificially structured obstacles on their bikes.

This kind of motorcycling event was first originated in Spain and is considered to have been formulated by “Ot Pi” who used to practice motocross trials on the simple push bikes.

Basic Stage

The most basic stage of motorcycle trials can be considered as testing the balancing skills of the rider, so it is much more similar to BMX riding. Motorcycle trials is the sport where contenders are required to clear different obstacles which are on their course, built naturally or man-made by using various elements.

This sport is gaining popularity all over the globe and there are strong contenders who take part in this event to test their act of motorcycling skills.

Balance

This sport involves a lot of balance, while standing firm on the pedals, while braking and while clearing many obstacles. The characteristics of good trials motorcycles used for trials riding include excellent brakes, lighter body, wide handle bars and design stressing on the layout of the frame. The design of trials bikes or trials motorcycles is totally different from those bikes which are used in road racing.

Rules & Regulations

The general rule of motorcycle trials is that the contenders are able to complete the courses in limited time with pre-marked segments which usually consist of 2 laps of 10 segments. The competitor with the least number of points is declared the winner. Maximum point which the contenders can score is 5 and the lowest score that can be scored is 0.

The ultimate motive of the riders is to maintain the balance and clear off the obstacles without touching their feet or any part of the body on ground.

The bikers will get one point as penalty for each time they lose their balance and touch the ground. When the trials bike riders place both their feet on the ground, they get maximum points, that is, 5 in each segment. The trilas bike rider, who completes both laps successfully in less time and scores lowest points, will be able to take the motorcycle trial event in his name.

Motorcycle trials is gaining lot of popularity as one of the most breathtaking sports which tests muscle power, mental strength and accurate balance of the challengers. The sport is quite popular with young sports enthusiasts. With the popularity of this sport, there are new rules which are also being implemented to make this sport highly accepted by masses.
